Cristobal Perez age 32 was accused in a shooting that killed two homeless individuals and wounding three others pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.
Cristobal Perez is facing a prison term of 40 years to life when he is sentenced on April 8th.
Prosecutors stated that a third victim was close to dying and if that person died, Perez would be given a more severe punishment.
On December 1st, 2023, near a freeway overpass in the northeastern part of the city, police stated that a black SUV dropped of a gunman who fired 14 no name shots into an encampment of homeless individuals and was picked up by a SUV. It was said that this incident was premeditated.
The arrest report stated that Perez wanted to “protect his family” after an attempted break-in at his sister-in-law’s home. His sister told him she identified a man at a gas station across from a homeless encampment who looked like the home invader, so Perez decided to take matters into his on hands and confront the man. (So, he fires 14 shots to confront one man?)
Perez' girlfriend, Kylee Young, met him blocks away in the getaway vehicle. Her case is still pending as she faces two counts of murder and one count of conspiracy to murder.
This is why SCOC is diligently working to provide what we can to displaced individuals struggling with sobriety and mental issues. We are constantly working on funding and learning all of the processes that it takes to open our first Transitional Home and Outpatient Clinic. The problem as we see is already out of control, yet maybe with our plan of approach we can reduce homelessness and support the healing of people's lives to give them a new beginning. The incident described in this article isn't the only occurrence where homeless people are being preyed upon. Spirit only knows what goes on through Homeless Encampments through the nights while we are safe at home in our warm beds. These people don't deserve to be gunned down in the streets on top of having nowhere to go.
Thanks for all your support and for reading.
